Braggards Test: After the straight leg raise (client is supine with the affected leg extended and internally rotated, practitioner raises the leg, flexing the hip until pain is felt), practitioner lowers the leg ~5° and dorsiflexes the foot to stretch the sciatic nerve.

Purpose:

  • Assess for sciatic nerve irritation

Indications:

  • Sciatica
  • Low back pain

Relevance:

  • Positive test – pain with dorsiflexion is indicative of sciatic nerve involvement, pain in contralateral leg is indicative of space occupying lesion or disc herniation
