Chamaelirium luteum – What are the indications, contraindications, drug interactions?

Chamaelirium luteum (false unicorn root) is a uterine tonic and parturifacient (along with Caulophyllum thalictroides, Mitchella repens and Rubus idaeus) that stimulates and facilitates labor.

Indications: 

• Amenorrhea
• Dysmenorrhea
• Menorrhagia
• Cyclic mastalgia
• Uterine prolapse
• Threatened miscarriage, premature labor
• Labor preparation

Contraindications:

• Early pregnancy
