Codman’s (drop-arm) test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Purpose:
- Assess for rotator cuff tear
Indications:
- Rotator cuff injury
- Decreased range of motion in shoulder
Relevance:
- Positive test – inability to lower the arm slowly or severe pain in shoulder is indicative of rotator cuff injury.
