Cozen’s test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Cozen’s Test: Client is seated or standing, and flexes the shoulder anteriorly with the elbow in full extension. Practitioners resists as client attempts to extends the wrist

Purpose:

  • Assess for lateral epicondylitis

Indications:

  • Pain in the elbow
  • Pain with wrist extension or when grasping something heavy

Relevance:

  • Positive test – pain in lateral elbow is indicative of lateral epicondylitis
