Echinacea spp. Is an immunomodulator, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory.

Indications:

  • General infections
  • Influenza
  • Pharyngitis, tonsillitis
  • Infectious vaginitis
  • Cancer

Contraindications:

  • May exacerbate autoimmune disease
  • Long term use

Interactions:

  • None

From a pharmacology perspective, beta-lactam inhibitors (Penicillin, , Cephalexin), protein synthesis inhibitors (Clindamycin, Doxycycline), and nucleic acid inhibitors (Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin, Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim) are useful in treating infections.
