Eucalyptus globulus – What are the indications, contraindications, drug interactions?

Eucalyptus globulus is an antimicrobial herb.

Indications:

  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Pharyngitis, tonsillitis
  • Topically for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, myalgia

Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy

Interactions:

  • None

From a pharmacology perspective, beta-lactam inhibitors (Penicillin, Cefdinir, Cephalexin), protein synthesis inhibitors (Clindamycin, Doxycycline), and nucleic acid inhibitors (Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin, Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim) are useful in treating infections.
