Fluticasone – What are the indications and contraindications?

Fluticasone is a glucocorticoid anti-inflammatory that blocks the arachidonic acid pathway.

Indications:

  • Prophylactic treatment of asthma
  • Topically for inflammation

Contraindications:

  • Status asthmaticus
  • Acute bronchospasm
  • Immune suppression

From a pharmacognosy perspective, Atropa belladonna Boswellia serrata, Datura stramonium, Ephedra sinica, Inula helenium, and Verbascum thapsus are useful in relaxing the bronchioles and decreasing inflammation associated with asthma.
