Fucus vesiculosus – What are the indications, contraindications, drug interactions?
October 30, 2020 12:38 amFucus vesiculosus (kelp, bladderwrack) is an antihypothyroid, nutritive and anti rheumatic. It contains a high amount of iodine and prolonged use may decrease iron, sodium and potassium absorption.
Indications:
- Hypothyroidism
- Goiter
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Contraindications:
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
- Iodine-induced thyroid conditions
- Iron deficiency
- Pregnancy and lactation
Interactions:
- May potentiate hypothyroid drugs
