Ganoderma lucidum – What are the indications, contraindications, drug interactions?

Ganoderma lucidum (reishi) is an antimicrobial immunomodulator with anti-hypertensive and hepatoprotective properties. It is calming for the nervous system and cardiovascular system.

Indications:

  • Hypertension
  • HIV
  • Lyme disease
  • Hepatitis
  • Liver cirrhosis
  • Insomnia
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

Contraindications:

  • May exacerbate autoimmune disease

Interactions:

  • Will potentiate hypertensive medication
  • Polysaccharides can decrease absorption of all drugs and should not be taken simultaneously (especially with cardiac glycosides, diuretics, antiarrhythmic, corticosteroids, etc.)
