Gelsemium sempervirens – What are the indications, contraindications, drug interactions?

Gelsemium sempervirens is anodyne, sedative and parturifacient (when applied topically to the os).

Indications:

  • Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Topical application on the os for labor induction

Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy and lactation

Interactions:

  • None

From a pharmacology perspective, anticholinergics (Cyclobenzaprine) and ion transport calming (Carisoprodol) drugs are muscle relaxants, while NMDA receptor antagonists (Ketamine), prostaglandin inhibitors (Acetaminophen, ), and opioids (Codeine, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Morphine, Methadone) are analgesics useful in pain management.
