January 5, 2021 5:40 amGingivitis is an inflammation of the gum tissue and is a non-destructive periodontal disease caused by plaque build-up. Associated with poor hygiene, high sugar diet, dental problems, diabetes, folic acid deficiency, and scurvy.
Sn. & Sx.:
- Inflammation and erythema of the gums
- Bleeding gums
- Loss of normal gingival contour
- Halitosis
- Dental plaque
dDx.:
- Oral lichen planus
- Pemphigoid
- Systemic lupus erythematous
Sequelae:
- Periodontitis
- Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
Work up:
- Clinical exam
Tx.:
- Proper oral hygiene
