Hawkins-Kennedy (Neer’s) test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 7:49 amHawkins-Kennedy Test: Client is seated with shoulder flexed anteriorly and elbow flexed to 90°. Using the forearm as a lever, the practitioner medially rotates the humerus, compressing the supraspinatus tendon against the coracoid process of the scapula.
Purpose:
- Assess for rotator cuff impingement by the supraspinatus tendon
Indications:
- Rotator cuff injury
- Decreased range of motion in the shoulder
Relevance:
- Positive test – pain in the lateral aspect of the shoulder is indicative of rotator cuff impingement by the supraspinatus tendon
