Lachmans’s test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Lachmans’s Test: Client is supine with knee flexed to 30°. Practitioner places one hand on the distal femur to stabilize the thigh and the other hand on the proximal tibia, pulling the shin forward

Purpose:

  • Assess for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear

Indications:

  • Knee injury

Relevance:

  • Positive test – anterior translation of the tibia is indicative of anterior cruciate ligament damage
