Lasegue’s test (straight-leg raise) – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Purpose:
- Assess the cause of low back pain or dysfunction
Indications:
- Sciatic pain
- Low back pain
Relevance:
- Positive test – lumbar pain after 70° is indicative of nerve root compression due to lumbar or SI joint dysfunction (0-35°: SI strain/sprain or piriformis spasm, 35-70°: sciatica, lumbosacral strain/sprain)
