Loratadine is a later generation antihistamine (H1 blocker) that does not have autonomic nervous system side effects and is less sedating than previous generations.

Indications:

  • Hay fever (allergic rhinitis or conjunctivitis)

Contraindications:

  • Hepatic disease
  • Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors

From a pharmacognosy perspective, Euphrasia officinails, Larrea tridentata and Sambusuc nigra are useful herbs in treating hay fever.
