Matricaria recutita – What are the indications, contraindications, drug interactions?
December 23, 2020 5:23 amMatricaria recutita (chamomile) is a carminative, anti-inflammatory, vulnerary, antispasmodic, and anxiolytic.
Indications:
- Unproductive fever
- Pharyngitis, tonsillitis
- Dyspepsia
- Gas, flatulence
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Infant colic
- Gastroenteritis
- Smooth muscle spasm
- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Topically for skin ulcers, wounds
Contraindications:
- High fever
- Gastritis, hyperchlorhydria, peptic ulcer disease, GERD
Interactions:
- As with all herbs that affect intestinal transit time, Matricaria can alter absorption of drugs and should not be taken simultaneously (especially with cardiac glycosides, diuretics, antiarrhythmics, corticosteroids, etc.)
