Milgram’s test- What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Milgram’s Test: Client is supine. With their knees extended, the client flexes at the hips, raising both legs approximately two inches off the table, and holding for as long as possible

Purpose:

  • Assess for intrathecal pathology or herniated disc

Indications:

  • Low back pain

Relevance:

  • Positive test – inability to complete the maneuver or hold the position for 30 seconds, or reproduction of pain, is indicative of disc pathology
