Minor’s sign – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Minor’s Sign: Client is seated and attempts to extend each leg.

Purpose:

• Assess for nerve compression or disc involvement

Indications:

• Sciatic 
• Low back pain

Relevance:

• Positive test – difficulty rising, use of upper body to facilitate rising is indicative of disc pathology
