Morton’s (forefoot squeeze) test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Morton’s Test: Client is seated. Practitioner grasps the food and gently squeezes the metatarsals together.

Purpose:

  • Assess for impingement of the branches of the deep peroneal nerve due to neuroma or stress fracture

Indications:

  • Foot pain or trauma

Relevance:

  • Positive test – pain or reproduction of neurological symptoms is indicative of Morton’s neuroma
