Natrum sulphuricum – What are the indications, key notes, modalities?

Indications:

• Lung disease with rattling cough (pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis)
• Meningitis
• Ailments following head injury (particularly depression, suicidal melancholy)
• Diabetes (especially after grief)

Constitutionally for depression, suicidal ideation that is tempered by feelings of obligation to their family, ailments following head injury

Key notes:

• Aggravated by happy, lively music
• Asthma in kids that is exacerbated by damp weather
• Clutches their chest from coughing
• Cheerful after stool

Modalities:

> dry, pressure, changing position

< damp, music, evenings, lying on left side, tight clothing

For cough causing one to clutch their chest, dDx. Drosera (< lying down)

For symptoms improved with loosened clothing, dDx. Lachesis (> discharge), Lycopodium (> passing gas)

For suicidal ideation, dDx. Aurum (> music), Psorinum (< cold)

For aggravations from lying on the left side, dDx. Phosphorus (< heat)
