Ober’s test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 7:48 amOber’s Test: Client lays on the unaffected side, with the hip and knee flexed. Standing behind the client, the practitioner stabilizes the pelvis with one hand while grasping the knee of the affected side with the other hand. The practitioner passively abducts and extends the hip, the9n lowers the knee toward the ground.
Purpose:
- Assess for iliotibial band or tensor fascia lata contracture
Indications:
- Restricted range of motion in the hip
Relevance:
- Positive test – failure of the affected leg to lower (remains abducted) is indicative of iliotibial band or tensor fascia lata contracture
