Parotitis is an inflammation of one or both parotid glands, the major salivary glands, and is associated with autoimmune disease (Sjogren’s), infection (particularly mumps, EBV, CMV) or dehydration.

Sn. & Sx.:

  • Swollen, painful parotid gland

dDx.:

  • Salivary gland neoplasm

Sequelae:

  • Airway obstruction

Work up:

  • Imaging (CT scan)

Tx.:

  • Antibacterials
