Patrick’s (Fabere) test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 8:02 amPatrick’s (Fabere) Test: Client is supine. Practitioner positions affected hin in flexion, abduction, and external rotation with the knee flexed, resting the foot on the opposite thigh just above the knee (creating a figure 4). Practitioner presses the flexed knee down toward the table while stabilizing the opposite ASIS.
Purpose:
- Assess hip or sacroiliac joint pathology
Indications:
- Low back pain
- Restricted range of motion in the hip
Relevance:
- Positive test – flexion of the affected hip higher off the table than the unaffected hip is indicative of sacroiliac joint pathology
- Pain in the groin indicates hip pathology while pain in the sacroiliac regian indicates pathology of the sacroiliac joint
*Faber stands for Flexion, Abduction, External rotation
