Phalen’s test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 7:51 amPhalen’s Test: Client is seated or standing and flexes both wrist pressing dorsal surfaces against each together and hold this position for 30 to 60 seconds.
Purpose:
- Assess for carpal tunnel syndrome
Indications:
- Pain or weakness in the hands
Relevance:
- Positive test – numbness, pain, tingling or other neurological symptoms in the hand is indicative of carpal tunnel syndrome/median nerve pathology
