Presbycusis is sensorineural hearing loss caused by hair cell degeneration, and is associated with aging.

Sn. & Sx.:

  • Progressive, bilateral hearing loss
  • Loss of voice discrimination

dDx.:

  • Chronic otitis media
  • Otosclerosis
  • Labyrinthitis
  • Cholesteatoma

Sequelae:

  • Hearing loss

Work up:

  • Weber and Rinne test
  • Otoscopic exam

Tx.:

  • Hearing aid
