Pulsatilla – What are the indications, key notes, and modalities?

- Respiratory tract infections (URTI, bronchitis)
- Cough at night
- Measles
- Non-suppurative otitis media
- Teething
- Hormonal complaints
Constitutionally for patients (usually children) that are weepy, clingy, emotional, indecisive, gentle, yielding, self-sacrificing, empathetic and constantly changing
Key notes:
- Flushes and desires cool air
- Craves fatty foods but makes them worse
- No two stools are alike
- Thirtless
Modalities:
> cold, open air, consolation
< fatty foods
For otitis media, dDx. Belladonna (high fever without thirst, < heat, motion, lying down), Chamomile (fever with intense sweating and thirst, < heat), Graphites (suppurative, cold but not > heat), Tuberculinum (< cold)
For teething, dDx. Calc-carb (< cold but thirst for cold drinks), Chamomile (fever with intense sweating and thirst, < heat), Ferrum-phos (high fever with few sx.)
For emotional lability, dDx. Sepia (< cold)
For thirstlessness, dDx. Apis (> cold), Belladonna (high fever, < heat, motion, lying down), Gelsemium (fever, > alone, continual motion), Ipecac (< warm), Lycopodium (> passing gas)
