Retinacular Test: Practitioner passively flexes the client’s fingers, beginner with distal interphalangeal joints, repeat with proximal interphalangeal joint flexed.

Purpose:

  • Assess for collateral or joining capsule tightness

Indications:

  • Decreased finger mobility

Relevance:

  • Positive test – finger flexion when proximal interphalangeal joints are flexed is indicative of tight collateral ligaments
