Trendelenburg test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?

Purpose:
- Assess gluteus medius dysfunction
Contraindications:
- Gait disturbances
Relevance:
- Positive test – lowering of the ilium of the non-weight bearing leg is indicative of weakened hip abductors (gluteus medius and minimus)
