Varus (lateral) stress test for the knee – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 8:51 amVarus (Lateral) Stress Test: Client is supine, practitioner holds client’s leg with knee extended and relaxed, and applies lateral pressure to the medial knee. The test is repeated with the knee in slight flexion.
Purpose:
- Assess integrity of the lateral collateral ligament of the knee
Indications:
- Knee injury
Relevance:
- Positive test – pain or excessive ligament laxity in lateral collateral ligament is indicative of lateral collateral ligament injury
