With conductive hearing loss, the conduction of sound to the cochlea is impaired, such that bone conduction is > air conduction (Rinnie), and sound lateralizes to the affected side (Weber).

External or middle ear obstruction

  • Cerumen impaction
  • Cholesteatoma
  • Foreign body

Infection

  • Otitis (AOE, AOM, effusion)
  • Necrotizing otitis externa

Structural

  • Tympanic membrane perforation
  • Otosclerosis
  • Tympanosclerosis
  • Ossicular malformations
