Wright’s (hyperabduction) test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 7:41 amWright’s (hyperabduction) Test: Client is seated. Practitioner abducts the clients arm to 180° while monitoring the radial pulse.
Purpose:
- Assess for neurovascular compression involving the pectoralis muscle in the thoracic outlet
Indications:
- Cervical, shoulder or upper limb pain
- Upper limb weakness or paresthesia
Relevance:
- Positive test – recurrence of the clients symptoms, numbness, tingling or diminished radial pulse is indicative of thoracic outlet syndrome
