Yergason’s test – What is the purpose, indication and relevance?
December 31, 2020 7:56 amYergasonn’s Test: Client is seated with their arm adducted and their elbow in 90° flexion, wrist pronated. Practitioner palpates the long head of the biceps tendon and resists as client attempts to supinate and laterally rotate their arm.
Purpose:
- Assess stability of the transverse humeral ligament
Indications:
- Shoulder instability
- Shoulder injury
- ‘Clicking’ sound with shoulder movement
Relevance:
- Positive test – subluxation of the tendon from the bicipital groove is indicative of instability of the transverse humeral ligament
